AWMA has joined onto a coalition made up of like-minded business and trade associations dedicated to promoting public health without raising taxes on so-called “snack foods” and sodas.  The coalition – called “Americans Against Food Taxes” – is opposed to the government’s proposed tax hikes on food and beverages, including sodas, juice drinks, and snack foods.  Instead, the coalition – made up of hundreds of businesses and trade associations – is focused on improving consumer education as a way to promote healthy lifestyles and a healthy economy.

The coalition is opposed to any increase in these taxes that are viewed as being regressive and discriminatory as well as an ineffective way of improving the nation’s health and well being.  This coalition is working on the state and federal level to oppose increased taxes on food products and to promote education as a more reliable way to combat obesity.
