AWMA Responds To Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Calls for Comments on Implementation of New FDA Tobacco Law

Publish Date:
July 2, 2009

AWMA has recently learned that the FDA has established a public docket to obtain information on the implementation of the new FDA & Tobacco law – entitled the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.  AWMA is in the process of drafting comments on behalf of the distribution industry to be submitted to the FDA to ensure that distributor concerns are understood as that agency begins the process of implementing regulations.

According to the FDA public docket, these initial comments must be submitted by September 29, 2009.  A copy of the FDA announcement is provided and any distributor wishing to make their own views known may submit comments to the address provided in the attached official FDA document.

AWMA will continue to monitor the implementation of this new law very closely and report to members on any new developments or opportunities for comment and input as the regulatory process goes forward.  AWMA will give our members a copy of our comments on this initial phase of FDA oversight of tobacco as soon as they are completed.
