AWMA Sends Letter to Nevada State Senators Opposing MSA Legislation
AWMA sent a strong letter of opposition to the Nevada State Senators set to consider legislation – SB 79 – that would revise certain provisions relating to the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA). Specifically, AWMA is concerned over a provision of the legislation that would make wholesalers liable for any unpaid cigarette escrow payments from non-participating manufacturers (NPM).
AWMA’s letter was sent to the Nevada State Senators set to consider this legislation during an upcoming Senate Revenue Committee hearing on April 7th. AWMA has urged these Senators to oppose any effort to promote SB 79 which would have a devastating impact on many of our wholesale distributors in that state. In the letter, AWMA urges the Senators to oppose this provision that would hold distributors liable for escrow payments when they were not even parties to the Master Settlement litigation.
AWMA will keep members apprised of any new developments on this issue.
