On September 28th AWMA submitted comments with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in response to that agency’s request for “all interested parties to provide information and share views on the implementation of the new tobacco law.”  With the passage of the FDA and tobacco bill AWMA is now dedicated to ensuring the distributor voice is heard as the agency goes about implementing the new law.  A copy of the comments submitted by AWMA can be found by clicking here.

In addition to filing comments, AWMA also participated in a “listening session” with top FDA regulators where our association made clear the need for greater clarity with respect to the recent implementation of the flavor ban.  AWMA called upon the FDA to provide distributors with a listing of the actual brands to be banned.  And, both AWMA President Scott Ramminger and AWMA Vice President of Government Affairs Anne Holloway urged the FDA to make real efforts to better understand our industry touching upon all the points addressed in our comments submitted to the agency on September 28th during the call with regulators.

AWMA also calls on members to contact the FDA directly letting the agency know of your businesses’ specific concerns with respect to the recent flavor ban.  AWMA recently sent out a memo to members offering talking points and a sample letter to use when writing the agency.  For a copy of the sample letter click here.
