AWMA Updated Memo on Implementation of FDA & Tobacco Law

Publish Date:

AWMA has updated our memo on the implementation of the FDA issue since we held a joint conference call between members of the Industry and Government Affairs Committees on July 15th.  The updated memo addresses several additional subjects – including the re-publication of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 1994 regulations on promotion and distribution, trace-back, recordkeeping and recording.  A copy of that updated memo is attached.

As you know, AWMA is in the midst of preparing comments to be submitted with FDA as part of the initial implementation of the new FDA and tobacco law.  These comments are the first stage of AWMA’s effort to ensure that the distributor voice is heard throughout this lengthy regulatory process by those FDA officials responsible for implementing this new law.  Already, AWMA has been in contact with senior staffers within FDA to help that agency set up a “listening session” in Washington with representatives of our distributor community and our association.  We are also working with top officials within the FDA – Dr. Josh Sharfstein, Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration – to secure a speaker for our upcoming Summit meeting in Atlanta.

We will continue to keep members posted on any new developments in this issue.
