FDA Outlines Action Necessary on Final Rule on New Warning Labels
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently revealed the new graphic images that will appear on all cigarettes packs and cartons as part of the new warning initiative. Under the 2009 Tobacco Control Act, the nine different warning labels will appear during a 12-month period for an equal length of time (as is possible) on each brand of cigarettes. And these products will be randomly distributed in all areas of the U.S. in which they are marketed. For advertisements, these warnings should be rotated quarterly in alternating sequence for each brand of cigarettes.
Each of the nine graphic warning labels will be featured on the front and back of 50% of the cigarette packs and cartons. And FDA has indicated that they will allow for an unlimited sell-through of old product as long as that product was manufactured prior to the September 22, 2012 deadline.
