Food Safety Becomes More Critical to Convenience Industry

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), signed into law Jan. 4, 2011, has already begun to leave its mark. However, convenience store operators can expect it to become much more prevalent in 2012. The law is in an attempt to protect the 48 million Americans who get sick from foodborne diseases annually. According to the U.S. government, 128,000 of those people are hospitalized following exposure and 3,000 die annually.
