House Votes to Repeal New Health-care Law
In one of it’s first major legislative actions, the newly Republican-led House voted late last night to repeal President Obama’s new health-care reform law. The vote, 245 to 189, was largely along party lines and reflected the new, more conservative, sensibilities in the House of Representatives.
However, while the House voted to repeal the new health-care law it is unlikely that this measure will pass in the Senate where the Majority Leader, Sen. Reid, has already indicated he will not allow a vote on this issue. Recognizing the difficulties in actually enacting such a repeal, Republican leaders in the House have vowed to try to change the new law and to eliminate some of the more contentious elements, such as the requirements that all Americans obtain health insurance. Towards that end, some of the House Chairmen of the various committee’s with jurisdiction over this law have indicated they will be convening shortly to go over ways to dissect certain specific elements of the new law to make needed improvements.
