New Hampshire recently passed legislation – H. 2 – that would decrease the cigarette excise tax by 10 cents per pack.  The new law would take the current cigarette excise tax from $1.78 per pack down to $1.68 per pack.  The new law would also decrease the excise tax on other tobacco products as well by 17%.  The law goes into effect on July 1, 2011 and was passed by the state’s legislature as part of an effort to increase state revenues.

However, in a neighboring state – Vermont – the cigarette excise tax is set to increase by 38 cents beginning on July 1st with the new tax of $2.62 per pack.
