New York City Will Delay Flavored Tobacco Ban

The flavored tobacco ban scheduled to take effect in New York City on February 26th has been delayed.  This ban was to affect sales of flavored cigars, cigarettes, chewing tobacco and pipe tobacco.  However, the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Manufacturing Company filed suit in federal court to block the ban stating that the federal law supersedes local law.  In addition, the Cigar Association of America also wrote to New York City officials to request clarification on how retailers and distributors could determine which products would be subject to the prohibition.

In response to these concerns, New York City has decided to delay enforcement until ban rules have been established.
