Retailers Hope for Halloween Sales Treat

Trick-or-treaters are expected to spend about $1 billion more this year for candy and costumes, and that could bode well for retailers over the coming winter holidays. Retailers, still a little leery of the soft economy, are staying with the promotional stance they have been relying on to move regular sales. While Halloween promises retailers a bit of a treat with stronger sales, a trick in hiding is that this year's Oct. 31 falls on a Sunday, a bit too late to offer an extra boost to October sales.
