'Smart Choices' Label to be Phased Out

Northfield-based Kraft Foods Inc. said Wednesday that it plans to phase out use of the "Smart Choices" logo, an industry-led nutrition labeling initiative that federal food regulators last week implied could mislead consumers.  Packaged-foods rivals General Mills, Kellogg and Unilever also said this week that they plan to phase out the Smart Choices label, which was unveiled a year ago and formally launched in grocery stores in August.
