Its been an honor for 24 years to be inducted into the Convenience Stores News Hall of Fame, and this year the honorees were Tom Joyce of The Hershey Company and Sonja Hubbard of E-Z Mart Stores, Inc.  This special event, held this past Tuesday evening in Dallas, was attended by about 100 attendees including some AWMA staffers.  AWMA was happy to be part of this event and was one of the sponsors of the evening.  “Tom Joyce and The Hershey Company does so much for the AWMA and our industry, it was our way of giving back, said AWMA’s President & CEO Scott Ramminger.  And at the upcoming AWMA Show in February at The Paris Hotel, Sonja Hubbard is the keynote speaker, so this was a great event  for us to be a part of”.

Tom has been with The Hershey Company for 34 years, and has held a variety of positions throughout the U.S.  He is currently Vice President of Customer & Industry Affairs at Hershey.  Tom has been on many boards and committees throughout the industry including AWMA, NACS, NCA, NACDS, FMI and GMA.  Tom was inducted into the National Confectionery Sales Associations’ Candy Hall of Fame in 2003, so this is another special honor bestowed upon Tom.  We know that AWMA members join us in congratulating Tom. 

Sonja, a former chairman of NACS, is the CEO of E-Z Mart Stores based in Texarkana, TX.  E-Z Mart operates more than 300 stores in five states.  Sonja is a tireless fighter for important c-store issues such as unfair transaction fees by credit card companies as well as leading numerous philanthropic issues throughout E-Z Marts five-state market.  Sonja was the first woman chairman at NACS in 2008.  Her father was a Hall of Fame recipient in 1997.
