AWMA has instituted a new program designed to help members host plant tours for elected officials. Dick Dunham - Vice President of Operations for Stephenson Wholesale Co. Inc, in Durant, Oklahoma - helped launch the program with AWMA by hosting a plant tour for U.S. Congressman Dan Boren (D-OK) at their facility in Durant.
By all accounts, the tour was a tremendous success and of real value to all those involved. Congressman Boren got an opportunity to meet with many of his constituents as well as gain a greater understanding of the wholesale distribution industry, and the employees of Stephenson Wholesale got a chance to meet their elected official in Congress and share their thoughts on issues of importance to them. In addition, the local newspaper, the Durant Daily Democrat, was on hand to cover the story which was featured as front page news the following day.
Hosting a plant tour gives your elected officials an opportunity to gain greater insights into your business and to hear about industry issues firsthand. The plant tour offers elected officials a chance to see how their laws work in real life and is a "win-win" occasion for both the legislator and the company providing the tour.
