A U.S. judge in Washington, DC ruled Feb. 29 that regulations requiring large graphic health warnings on cigarette packaging and advertising violate free-speech rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

U.S. District Judge Richard Leon ruled in favor of cigarette manufacturers, which challenged the Food and Drug Administration-s regulation requiring companies to label tobacco products with images designed to scare consumers into not using cigarettes.

The American Wholesale Marketers Association has announced that more than 18 hours of education will be offered during the 2011 Show that will take place February 8 – 10, 2011 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

Fairfax, VA -- At its meeting on September 14, 2009, the board of directors of the American Wholesale Marketers Association (AWMA) approved a three-year plan for its annual convention and expo that includes a series of changes intended to strengthen the value of the show for both exhibitors and attendees. Under the direction of AWMA’s Convention & Expo Committee, AWMA senior staff, and an industry expert & trade show consultant, the board adopted short-term and long-term strategies.

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA   —   The American Wholesale Marketers Association (AWMA) and the National Association of Tobacco Outlets (NATO) this week issued a joint letter to all 435 U.S. Representatives explaining serious concerns both national organizations have with the pending bill in Congress to grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to regulate tobacco products.

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA — The American Wholesale Marketers Association (AWMA), a national trade association representing wholesale distributors of consumer products to the convenience store industry, submitted comments on March 26, 2007 objecting to the Proposed Rulemaking on Classification of Cigars and Cigarettes offered by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Fairfax, VA (9/22/05) — AWMA recently completed an in-depth study of the problem of illegal Internet sales of cigarettes and sent the report to every Member of Congress, all U.S. Attorneys Generals across the nation as well as various press outlets to bring this issue to their attention and to urge action to combat this widespread problem.
