Rhode Island Considers Banning Cigarette Sales at Pharmacies with Clinics

The Rhode Island House of Representatives is considering a bill that would ban cigarette sales at pharmacies which also offer walk-in clinics.  The Rhode Island Medical Society supports the measure, on the grounds that it does not make sense to sell cigarettes at health care clinics. Meanwhile, retailers and operators of such clinics have opposed the bill.

A spokesperson for the Convenient Care Association said banning cigarette sales in a retail setting simply because of a landlord-tenant relationship with a health care provider is not the best way to address public health issues, reports WJAR-TV in Rhode Island.
