QuikTrip Closes in on 500th Store Goal with New Locations

Wichita, Kansas-based QuikTrip has announced plans for its 38th c-store in the Wichita area and an undetermined number of new stores in Tuscon, according to The Wichita Eagle.  This brings QuikTrip ever closer to its plan to open its 500th store this summer before reaching its golden anniversary – 50 years in the business - in September.

The new 4,600-square-foot Wichita store will open in 2009, company spokesperson Mike Thornbrugh said.  “We’re going to go where the customers are,” said Thornbrugh. “Wichita remains a key market for us, and we’re going to continue to grow as the need dictates,” Thornbrugh added. The company will open a new location in nearby Derby, Kansas within a month. In Arizona, QuikTrip has announced plans for an undetermined number of new stores in Tucson. The company already operates 59 c-stores in Phoenix.

QuikTrip has found success with its QT Kitchens which offer fresh, made-on-the-site gourmet-style sandwiches, grilled items, wraps, pastries, cookies and muffins.  Previously, the company delivered such items to each store but has been busy adding QT Kitchens to all of its new and many of its existing locations.

QuikTrip currently operates 494 stores across nine states and has 10,500 employees.
